Colors that Tell Stories: A Dive into the "Colder Than Ice" Collection

Every Maison Banane collection is born from a world that obsesses, nourishes, and inspires me. Handmade watercolor is, to me, a language of its own—a way to express what words alone cannot. And among my greatest inspirations, literature holds a special place.

"Colder Than Ice" is a collection of handmade watercolors that weaves connections between my unique colors and the texts, authors, and characters that have left a mark on me. It’s a way to capture fragments of their worlds in pigment and make them resonate in a different form.

Take La Perla Yellow, a subtle and evocative yellow, paying homage to Alfonsina Storni, the Argentine poet with a tragic fate. Her final poem, Voy a dormir, is a farewell letter of heartrending beauty—a text that, with every read, moves me as much as it soothes me. Here’s a translation in English.

Or L'Écume des Jours, inspired by Boris Vian’s cult novel. This luminous, absurd, and tragic love story, where reality bends to the weight of emotions, feels perfectly captured in this intense turquoise—both vibrant and tinged with melancholy.

And then there’s On the Road Grey, a deep, shifting gray, like the asphalt beneath the wheels of Jack Kerouac’s wandering heroes. This book has been with me for a long time, and one quote, in particular, has never left me:

I find this sentence as visual as it is incandescent, and that’s exactly the energy I wanted to infuse into this shade—a gray full of movement, capturing both wanderlust and intensity.

These inspirations evolve over time, just as we do. Our sensitivities shift, new authors move us, and that’s how Maison Banane’s color offering continues to grow.

I’d love to know what inspires you—what books have left a mark on your life, and what shades they bring to mind. Share your reading recommendations with me, and who knows? Maybe a future Maison Banane color will be born from them.

What novel has left an unforgettable trace on you? 🎨
